The Process

The Station is one of a series of four etchings inspired by Anthony Gross CBE, RA, RE (1905–1984). One of these editions of etchings “the Allotments” was selected for Print Rebels exhibition at Bankside Gallery, London and other UK venues. This exhibition celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of the founder and first President of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, Francis Seymour Haden. Current members of the RE responded directly to their Society’s heritage to create a boxed set of prints which were donated to the collections of the British Museum, and HRH Queen Elizabeth II, amongst others.

Anthony Gross’s etchings have inspired me since I began printmaking, particularly his use of line and mark, viewpoints and depiction of the everyday landscape. The Station is Temple Meads in Bristol near where i live. I made the drawing directly onto a grounded copper plate on site.
